Early 2012, I had been spending time helping a young man I'd met at a youth center. He came from a broken home and had made some seriously poor life decisions. After being released from jail, he went to stay at the Church on the Street men's shelter.

Every time we talked, he told me about a man named Albert. Albert took him in. Loved him unconditionally. No agenda. No program. Just a man who decided that broken people were worth his time.

One day I was out working and close enough to the shelter to stop in. I didn't just want to meet this man — I wanted to thank him for the way he treated the men there.

From that day forward, I dedicated much of my time and resources to supporting Albert and the work he was doing.

I've met many people in my life who claim the identity of being a Christian. I've only met a few who live it out wholeheartedly. Albert is one of those few. No performance. No platform. Just a man showing up every day for people most of the world has written off.

The photo in the header was taken on a road trip I invited Albert on — headed up north. He's one of those people who makes every room and every mile better just by being in it.
